“This is delicious!” Millie’s sweet, innocent smile is bright, her hair is disheveled from my hands and her skin is an adorable shade of pink as she looks at me.

It’s an odd sensation, wanting to impress a woman when I’ve never in my life had to work at impressing anyone. My identity and my wealth, never mind my good looks, have always been enough. Until now. “I’m glad you like it, sweetheart. I was hoping so.”

She blushes even harder and her smile goes wider. “I do. A lot. And I uh…like you too, Julian. A lot.”

Damn that sweet admission lights a fire in my chest. “And I like you a lot, Millie.”

“Are you concerned at all that I’m only twenty?” Her eyebrows raise cautiously.

I shrug. “As long as you don’t mind that I’m twice your age.”

Her eyes widen and my arms tense on the spot. “You’re forty? Really? You sure don’t look like it but it’s not like I mind, anyway. It’s you who I like, your age is irrelevant.”

Relief floods over at her acceptance. Over dinner, we come to learn a lot more about one another, and every detail confirms what I thought the moment I laid eyes on Millie. She’s mine.

Dinner wraps up and I pour two whiskeys before taking her by the hand. “Let’s go.”

She stands and puts her hand in mind with what feels like all the trust in the world. “Where are we going?”

“You’ll see,” I assure her and press a kiss on the tip of her nose. With her hand in mine, I lead her down the long hall to the sliding doors at the end and slide them open. “As you requested.”

Millie’s eyes go as wide as the perfect O shape of her mouth as she steps inside, twirling to give the library the full sweep. “This isn’t just a library,” she whispers and her gaze collides with mine. “This is perfection.”

I can’t look away as she walks around the room, touching the leather-bound and first edition books with reverence. She’s as transfixed with the books as I am with her. My fingers are itching to run through her hair hanging in soft waves down her back. Fuck.

She gasps and turns, a smile of pure joy on her face. “This is stunning. Absolutely stunning.”

“You’re stunning,” I tell her sincerely and cross the library to wrap her up in my arms. “You are the first woman to ever care about my library more than my money.”

She giggles softly. “Well…you have a collection here I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on.”

I don’t know how long I stare at her beautiful face but I know I’m gone for this woman. It’s too soon and I don’t know shit about her and worse, she seems to have no idea who I really am which is refreshing as fuck. But the fact that she isn’t automatically staking a claim on my money means I need to tell her, and soon. “Millie.”
